A New Florence + the Machine Era May Be Upon Us
Florence Welch, the frontwoman of Florence + the Machine, has teased the potential for new music. This exciting announcement comes just a few weeks after covering “Just A Girl” for Showtime’s Yellowjackets.
On April 3, Florence Welch posted a snippet of new music. Welch is lying in a bathtub as a mermaid. The “My Love” singer captioned the post with a simple mermaid emoji and a link to pre-save the anticipated single. She has not shared any other details about the track, but nevertheless, fans are excited.
Apart from Florence + the Machine releasing Dance Fever, the band also embarked on a tour supporting the record. “The Dance Fever” tour featured opening acts Arlo Parks, Japanese Breakfast, Sam Fender, Wet Leg, King Princess, and Yves Tumor. Last month, Welch reimagined No Doubt’s 90’s hit, “Just A Girl.” Welch recalls the experience of covering the song for the psychological drama, Yellowjackets as a “dream job.”
The “Daffodil” singer elaborates, “I’m such a huge fan of Yellowjackets, and this era of music, and this song especially had a huge impact on me growing up, so I was thrilled to be asked to interpret it in a ‘deeply unsettling’ way for the show. We tried to really add some horror elements to this iconic song to fit the tone of the show.”
The Yellowjackets x Florence Welch collaboration was exciting for many. After fans could not wait for season two to premiere, Welch uploaded a video of her perusing through a clothing rack of stunning dresses she would wear on tour when a dark blue and gold Yellowjackets varsity jacket emerged. She writes, “So happy I got picked for the team this year.”
