A New Look at Colorful Character Posters and Teaser Trailer for Barbie
It is a good day to be a Barbie fan. Greta Gerwig’s highly-anticipated project just dropped twenty-four brand-new character posters and another teaser trailer for the biggest event of the summer.
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie features a star-studded cast. Apart from Margot Robbie (Babylon) and Ryan Gosling (La La Land) landing the roles of Barbie and Ken, the film’s latest character posters tease that there are many other variations to the iconic dolls.
Robbie embodies the iconic Barbie doll: She’s a blonde bombshell with piercing blue eyes. Her poster notes that “she’s everything” and jokes that Ken is, well, Ken. Emerald Fennell is Midge, Barbie’s best friend. Michael Cera is Allan, Ken’s best friend.
Gosling is the film’s main Ken, but Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and Scott Evans are also reimagining Ken. Apart from Robbie’s Barbie, other actresses embodying the doll have professions. Dua Lipa (mermaid), Issa Rae (President), Hari Nef (doctor), Nicola Coughlan (diplomat), Ana Cruz Kayne (Supreme Court Justice), Emma Mackey (Nobel Prize in Physics), Alexandra Shipp (Author), Kate McKinnon (gymnast), Sharon Rooney (Lawyer), and Ritu Arya (Journalist, Pulitzer).

Although plot details have not been revealed at this time, Barbie is rumored to follow Robbie and Gosling’s characters as they stumble into the real world. This is an idea that would make sense, considering that there are several “human” character posters. These characters would include America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Connor Swindells, and Jamie Demetriou. Helen Mirren serves as the narrator, and Will Ferrell is Mattel’s CEO.
As if the stunning character posters were not enough for fans today, a second teaser trailer has emerged. The trailer is loaded with funny moments. It begins, “To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken.”
Another funny moment finds Gosling’s Ken telling Barbie (Robbie), “I thought I might stay over tonight.” Barbie asks, “Why?” to which he replies, “Because we’re boyfriend and girlfriend.” She then asks innocently, “To do what?” Ken, after some silence, states, “I’m actually not sure.”

After landing in the Real World, Simu Liu’s Ken and Gosling’s Ken engage in an attempted “beach off” fight as Robbie’s Barbie breaks it up. Robbie and Gosling also tease plenty of rollerblade action.
