Warner Bros. Debuts the Official Trailer for Blue Beetle
Warner Bros. released the official trailer for Blue Beetle, which promises an action-packed adventure featuring the DC superhero on the big screen for the first time.
Blue Beetle stars Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai). In the movie, Maridueña portrays Jaime Reyes, a recent college graduate who returns home ready to begin a new chapter. However, Jaime quickly faces challenges in finding his purpose in life. As he searches for what’s next, fate takes hold, and Jaime finds himself in possession of the Scarab, a relic of alien biotechnology.
The trailer promises a thrilling experience for viewers as the story follows the ups and downs of a young superhero. When the Scarab selects Jaime as its symbiotic host, it gives him incredible powers and shiny blue armor. His powers take him on the extraordinary journey to his destiny as the Blue Beetle.
Alongside Maridueña, the cast includes Adriana Barraza (Thor), Damían Alcázar (Narcos), Elpidia Carillo (Mayans M.C.), Bruna Marquezine (Maldivas), Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayans M.C.), Susan Sarandon (Monarch), George Lopez (Rio), Belissa Escobedo (Hocus Pocus 2), and Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows).
The character Blue Beetle was first introduced in DC Comics in 2006, with the character of Jaime Reyes in the series’ third iteration. In the comics, Jaime Reyes is a Mexican-American from El Paso, Texas.
By the original comics, Blue Beetle features a primarily Latino cast with a Latino director, Angel Manuel Soto, at its helm. Soto recently described the movie as “undeniably or unapologetically Latino.” With that being said, Soto also maintains that the movie’s representation does not confine it to any particular genre. On the matter, Soto stated, “It is a superhero movie that happens to have a Latino at the forefront. That’s it.”
Following the trailer’s release, fans expressed their enthusiasm for the hero’s first feature film appearance and the representation it brings to the DC cinematic universe.

Furthermore, Soto shared that he hopes Blue Beetle “starts a conversation that allows us to be part of a global community and embrace each other’s differences in a way that’s exciting.” And exciting it will surely be.
