Troye Sivan posted to his Instagram story to let followers know that his Twitter was hacked after a scammer posted a fake album announcement.

After his last tweet from January 2022, Troye Sivan seemingly posted about an upcoming album release. Fans initially assumed the end of the artist’s Twitter hiatus, as well as getting excited about receiving new music from Sivan.

However, after being alerted of this post through fan responses, Sivan posted on his Instagram story about a hacker. He captions a selfie with, “I deleted my Twitter so whoever has the account now is not meeeeee they are scammers.” The hacker’s announcement about a supposed album titled $TROYE included a deceptive link that likely leads to an unofficial and unsafe site.

This fake tweet is no longer on Sivan’s account, and it looks like the issue has been resolved. But Sivan is clearly not a fan of Twitter and is unlikely to use the app regularly again for now. The artist is mainly active on Instagram, often posting every few days.

Sivan’s fans have been wanting a new album for a while. In the past few years, Sivan has released new music, but only in the form of singles or EPs. Sivan’s last full-length album, Bloom, came out in 2018.

In 2012, The June Haverly EP marked Sivan’s start as a singer. Around that same time, Sivan’s career as a YouTuber began, and it quickly blew up. Building an audience of over 7 million subscribers, YouTube’s exposure helped Sivan’s music career. In 2014, Sivan droped the TRXYE EP which was the true foundation of Sivan establishing himself as an artist.

With over 18 million monthly listeners on Spotify, Sivan’s music career is doing extremely well. And he doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, continuously releasing new music, even if it’s not full-length albums. Five years is quite a bit of time between albums, so maybe we can expect a new album sometime in the foreseeable future. For now, stream Sivan’s music below.
