Barbie (Margot Robbie) is out with her friends engaging in the world’s most “giant blowout party” when she suddenly blurts out the line, “Do you guys ever think about dying?” This comment prompts the music to come to a screeching halt, and everyone stops dancing.

Barbie states, “Some things have been happening that might be related.” She adds that she has experienced a cold shower, fell off her roof, and her feet are off the ground.

Barbie’s problem of no longer having her arch leaves her desperate for answers. She looks to Kate McKinnon’s Barbie for advice, who instructs her to go to the “real world” to discover “the truth about the universe.”

As Barbie drives her pink convertible out of Barbie Land, she sings the tune “Closer to Fine” by the Indigo Girls. She tries to reassure herself that everything is “fine,” but things are about to get a lot more complicated with Ken (Ryan Gosling) in the backseat.

Barbie and Ken appear to have a wonderful time journeying through picturesque landscapes until they land themselves in trouble with the law. Yes, the duo gets arrested.

In addition to the trailer, the highly-anticipated movie soundtrack was also announced. The album includes Ava Max, Charli XCX, Dominic Fike, Dua Lipa, FIFTY FIFTY, Gayle, Haim, Ice Spice, Kali, Karol G, Khalid, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, PinkPantheress, Ryan Gosling, Tame Impala, and The Kid LAROI.

Margot Robbie may be the film’s lead Barbie, but the movie also contains several other Barbie Dolls who are accomplished in their field. These would include Dua Lipa (mermaid), Issa Rae (President), Hari Nef (doctor), Nicola Coughlan (diplomat), Ana Cruz Kayne (Supreme Court Justice), Emma Mackey (Nobel Prize in Physics), Alexandra Shipp (Author), Kate McKinnon (gymnast), Sharon Rooney (Lawyer), and Ritu Arya (Journalist, Pulitzer).

Gosling is the film’s main Ken, but Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and Scott Evans are also reimagining Ken. Once Barbie and Ken enter the Real World, they stumble across “human” characters America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Connor Swindells, and Jamie Demetriou. Helen Mirren serves as the narrator, and Will Ferrell is Mattel’s CEO. Emerald Fennell is portraying Midge, Barbie’s best friend, and Michael Cera stars as Allan, Ken’s best friend.

Greta Gerwig’s film allows everyone a chance to enjoy this re-imagination of the Barbie doll. The trailer reveals, “If you love Barbie, this movie is for you. If you hate Barbie, this movie is for you.” We could not be any more excited to enter the colorful candy world of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. The film arrives in cinemas on July 21.
