SZA, Beyoncé, and Coco Jones all made an impact at the 2023 BET Awards with their accomplishments in the music industry.

Jones was the only artist out of the three to make an appearance at the BET Awards, yet they all established a heavy presence for women in the music industry.

Jones accepted her award and performed her hit “ICU.” This was a purposeful moment for her career as she hopes to lock in a Grammy nomination. She won the award for Best New Artist and is the first woman R&B singer to win since SZA five years ago.

SZA’s dominance in the industry shined through her successes during the awards. Her song, “Kill Bill” won Video of the Year. The artist’s most recent album, SOS, was tied for Album of the Year with Beyoncé’s hit album, Renaissance. SZA’s third and final award of the night was Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, surpassing Beyoncé for the first time.

Beyoncé and SZA tied for the most awards, as they both took home three awards. Drake followed behind, taking home two.

Beyoncé's leading hit on the Billboard Hot 100, "Break My Soul" won two awards: the BET Her Award and the Viewers Choice Award. Her achievements at the 2023 BET Awards, have made her the artist with the most wins in BET Awards history. She is the first three-time winner of the BET Her Award, an award that highlights music focused on the inspiration and empowerment of women.
