At the recent European premiere of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the prequel film to The Hunger Games series, actress Rachel Zegler stunned the red carpet.

Zegler took inspiration from the original girl on fire, Katniss Everdeen, wearing a dress reminiscent of the character’s most iconic look. The actress, who portrays District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird in the upcoming film, wore a black, mermaid-style gown at the premiere in Berlin on November 6. The flared end of the dress was a fiery red that provided a bold contrast to the rest of the black dress.

This bold bottom referenced Katniss’ dress in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. In the film, Katniss, embodied by Jennifer Lawrence, wears a wedding dress while at her final interview before entering the Hunger Games arena for a second time.

While the white wedding dress reminds the citizens of the capital of Katniss’ love for her partner Peeta Mellark, it has also been altered to catch fire when she spins. The fire burns off the original dress, leaving behind a Mockingjay dress, a symbol of the rebellion.

Zegler was accompanied on the red carpet by three of her co-stars from the film, including Tom Blyth, Hunter Schafer, and Josh Andres Rivera.

While Blyth and Rivera wore deep blue and black suits to tie into Zegler’s look, Schafer wore a beautiful mosaic dress. The colors and design of the dress gave the effect of looking almost hand-painted.

Despite the ongoing SAG strike, Zegler and her co-stars did not cross the picket line in attending the premiere, as they had been granted a waiver a few weeks prior.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes takes place 64 years before Katniss first enters the Hunger Games arena. The film features a young future President Snow as its protagonist. Snow and Lucy Gray’s worlds collide when he is made mentor for the 10th annual Hunger Games. Their lives and futures would forever be changed.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes hits theaters on November 17. Pre-order your ticket here. In the meantime, you can purchase your copy of the book on Amazon.
