New Interview Reveals SZA Made Music to ‘Stick It to Her Ex’

While in a relationship with her ex, SZA still played around with her passions and what she wanted to pursue as a career. Born and raised in New Jersey, she dropped out of college only one semester away from graduation and instead took on bartending to help pay rent. Her ex, being a part of the design industry and eight years older than her, managed nearly all their finances. Over time, SZA became irritated with the codependency. That’s when she came across her talent for songwriting and vocals.

The cover of the album is an imitation of an image of the late Princess Diana of Wales while vacationing. Artists featured on the album include Phoebe Bridgers, Travis Scott, and Don Toliver. The most popular song on the album, “Kill Bill,” debuted on TikTok throughout the year and provoked the creation of multiple trends.
