Celine Song is reuniting with A24 for her second feature film, Materialists. This project will follow her commercial success, Past Lives.

After achieving critical acclaim for Past Lives, filmmaker Celine Song’s forthcoming film has an A-list cast in talks to star. Dakota Johnson (Madame Web), Chris Evans (The Avengers), and Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) are in negotiations to lead Song’s rom-com, Materialists.

Materialists, like Past Lives, will take place in New York. The film is a New York-set rom-com that follows a high-end matchmaker who gets involved with a wealthy man. Johnson, Evans, and Pascal’s roles in the film have not been disclosed.

Song’s Past Lives premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023 with rave reviews. The film “follows Nora (Greta Lee) and Hae Sung (Teo Yoo), two deeply connected childhood friends, who are wrest apart after Nora’s family emigrated from South Korea. Two decades later, they are reunited in New York for one fateful week as they confront notions of destiny, love, and the choices that make a life, in this heartrending modern romance.”

The film received five Golden Globe nominations and is currently in the running for two Academy Awards (Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay).

Although no further plot details have been provided at this time, we look forward to Celine Song’s second film. In the meantime, Past Lives is available to stream on Prime Video.
