“A&W” singer Lana Del Rey recently announced that she will release her new album, Lasso, in September. The new LP will divert from the artist’s nine previous studio albums, as the singer revealed it will be a country album.

Del Rey, who is known for her romantic and tragic alternative style, made the announcement onstage on January 31 at Billboard’s pre-Grammy celebration. During the announcement, the singer discussed a shift in the music industry towards the country genre, explaining, “If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country. We’re going country.”

Fans started to speculate about the new direction when Del Rey posted a teaser to her Instagram earlier that month. In the post, she shared a recording of a potential new song, “Henry, Come On,” and tagged country music producer Luke Laird in the caption.

However, these suspicions were confirmed when she took to the stage to praise fellow collaborator, Jack Antonoff. Del Rey mentioned that the two have joined together in creating music once again as she announced the new country album. She expressed how her passion for country music led to their collaboration, stating, “That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years to write our album coming out in September called Lasso.”

Del Rey then goes on to praise her collaborator’s accomplishments, expressing, “It’s anything but luck to be nominated for Producer of the Year for five years in a row.” The singer shared her respect for Antonoff’s talent and expressed how working with him allows her to explore the creative process: “If you want a fiddle, he can play a fiddle. If you want a rock drum beat, if you want a folk drum beat, he’ll get in the drum room. He’ll do it.”

In light of the announcement, Del Rey’s fans are certainly excited to see what the musical duo will create. Even those who are skeptical of country music have taken to social media to share their excitement and openness surrounding the upcoming album. Until its release, fans will have to settle for her already groundbreaking discography, which they can stream here.
