Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actress Elizabeth Olsen and Golden Globe nominee Charles Melton will team up in the upcoming feature film Love Child, directed by Todd Solondz.

Olsen is best known for her lead roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Wanda Maximoff in WandaVision on Disney+, as well as her role in HBO Max’s crime drama series Love & Death. Charles Melton began his acting career through guest roles in series like Glee and American Horror Story. However, he gained mainstream attention in the role of Reggie Mantle on CW’s series Riverdale.

Love Child is a dark story centered around a woman named Misty, stuck in an abusive marriage. Her son Junior is an 11-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a star on Broadway. Junior orchestrates an accident that almost kills his father because he wants a new dad. As a replacement, he plans to get the attractive man living in his family’s guesthouse to fall in love with his mother so he can become his new father. After his plan fails, Junior sets up a new sinister plan, and the story will follow these characters, their choices, and consequences.

Director Todd Solondz will be working with the producers who created Past Lives and Rocket Science, handling international sales at EFM with Cinetic Media and WME. Producers include Cindy Bru, Christine Vachon, David Hinojosa, and Ford Corbett. Additionally, Volition Media and Gramercy Park Media are financing the film.

In a statement, Solondz claims that the film will be “a super fun and playful celebration of Hollywood movies.”

Elizabeth Olsen also mentioned while talking about the news, “I am a long-time fan of Todd’s work and to collaborate with him on this film is a true dream.”

Olsen is an outstanding actress, as we have seen through her multiple award recognitions over the years, including one nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited/Anthology Series/Movie at the 2021 Emmy’s for her role in WandaVision, as well as nominated for two Golden Globes for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a limited series (Love & Death) and Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series (WandaVision). The actress has been a nominee for her popular roles, including spots at the Critics Choice Awards, Satellite Awards, Kid’s Choice Awards, MTV Awards, and many more. Fans state Olsen is being snubbed for not winning her nominations after giving an incredible performance.

Riverdale’s Melton made his way to the top for his performance in the 2023 drama May December, alongside Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, receiving critical acclaim and accolades. The drama received four nominations at the 81 Golden Globes and Best Original Screenplay at the 96 Academy Awards, being chosen as one of the top ten films of 2023 by the American Film Institute, with the film also being called by fans an Oscars snub.

Actors Penélope Cruz and Edgar Ramirez originally were to lead the film, but the project was still in development, causing them to drop out. Rachel Weisz and Colin Farrell replaced the pair, but they, too, eventually resigned. As a result, Elizabeth Olsen and Charles Melton officially took over their roles.

Many fans took to social media to share their excitement about the news.

Moreover, it looks like the film is in good hands. Seeing as these talents are covering the acting and filming.

After being in development for a while, filming will finally begin this spring in March and April in New York City. Audiences are even speculating the estimated release date for Love Child to be 2025.

While you wait, check out the actors’ most recent works. Charles Melton’s May December is now available for streaming on Netflix, and Elizabeth Olsen’s Love & Death is available to stream on Max.
