Alternative hip-hop band Twenty One Pilots has returned to the music scene, announcing their next album, Clancy. Here’s what you need to know.

A few weeks ago, Twenty One Pilots fans began to notice that the covers of the duo’s prior albums were changing on streaming platforms. Red tape overlayed different parts of each album, seeming suspicious. Could this mean new music?

As it turns out, the fans were right. On February 22, the band released a video on X, stating, “Next week, a new chapter begins. But today, we take a look back at how we got here.” In addition, the video outlined the story of a character embodied by the lead singer, Tyler Joseph, with features from talented drummer Josh Dun. The story included references to the band’s past albums and music videos as a nod to the fans who have been with them since the beginning.

Moreover, on February 28, the band released “Overcompensate,” their first song in nearly three years. Additionally, they took to social media the next day to announce that their new album, Clancy, will be out on May 17.

Scaled and Icy was the duo’s last album and featured “Shy Away.” However, it was one of their least popular albums. For that reason, fans are looking forward to the new work from Joseph and Dun. As of February 29, “#twentyonepilots” was trending on X.

Furthermore, the duo released a new music video for the lead single, which featured the artists in a gymnasium illuminated in red. The group captioned the video, “Overcompensate. The first from our new album Clancy.”

Twenty One Pilots will release their new album on May 17. Fans can stream their single “Overcompensate” and pre-save Clancy here
