Chadwick Boseman’s wife, Taylor Simone, recently accepted an NAACP Image Award on his behalf and encouraged viewers to get tested for colon cancer during her acceptance speech.

She also expressed her gratitude to the NAACP Image Awards for honoring her husband as Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture, which he won for his role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. This role was the last one he got to play before his unfortunate passing.

Simone also shared a short video for BET a couple of years ago, stressing the importance of getting checked for colon cancer.

“As always, he would give honor and glory to the most high God. He would thank his mom and dad and give honor to the ancestors as we now honor him,” Simone stated tearfully.

She complimented her husband, stating, “He was an uncommon artist and an even more uncommon person.

Boseman, who passed away on August 28, 2020, was a highly respected actor known particularly for his role as the Black Panther. Before his passing, the actor had been secretly battling colon cancer for four years.

During her speech, Simone took the time to bring awareness to the issue of colon cancer, stating, “Black people in this country are 20% more likely to be diagnosed with colon cancer and 40% more likely to die from it. The age for routine screening has recently been lowered to 45, so if you are 45 or older, please get screened.”

Chadwick Boseman’s passing from colon cancer placed a necessary spotlight on the fact that adults were starting to suffer from colon cancer at younger ages. The actor was diagnosed in 2016 when he was only 39 years old and passed at the age of 43, leaving his family and his phenomenal legacy behind.

Simone was emotional as she continued to urge viewers to heed her warnings. “This disease is beatable if you catch it in its early stages, so you don’t have any time to waste even if you have no family history and even if you think that nothing is wrong,” she tearfully expressed. “And if you are younger than 45, please be proactive about your health.”
