In New Netflix Series: Kim Kardashian, Emma Roberts and Marlene King Are Set to Produce

Netflix has landed the upcoming series Calabasas, which Kim Kardashian and Emma Roberts are set to executive produce alongside Marlene King.

Calabasas will be an adapted television series based on Via Bleidner’s 2021 book If You Lived Here, You’d Be Famous By Now

The book includes a collection of stories that was Bleidner’s writing debut. She published it while still studying at UC Santa Barbara. Flatiron Books published it in 2021, and it gained recognition for its funny and relatable moments that readers could relate to. The stories are a coming-of-age memoir and include many heartwarming and humorous stories about growing up in the Los Angeles suburb of Calabasas in the 2010s.

The teen drama series will follow a sixteen-year-old named Via, a sheltered Midwestern Catholic schoolgirl who is forced to move with her family and transfer to a new high school. She is brought into an entirely different world, where she has to grow up in a new environment where everyone is trying to be someone else.

Marlene King had the idea to adapt the book into a television series and pitched it to Alexandra Milchan, an executive producer, and will go on as writer and showrunner. She is best known for creating the hit series Pretty Little Liars, one of the most iconic modern teen mystery series fans still talk about and rewatch today. She is known for having a creative mind when writing stories, so she will write the adaptation and serve as the showrunner on this new series.

Roberts is known for her acting career in popular films and series, including American Horror Story, Scream Queens, and We’re the Millers, among many others. She has been working on growing her producing resume alongside her best friend Preiss, with whom she founded Belletrist Productions in 2017. The company has already produced two popular series: Tell Me Lies on Hulu and First Kill on Netflix.

Kardashian is linked to multiple projects, including previously mentioned, her first acting role in American Horror Story, followed by the upcoming comedy film Fifth Wheel, an untitled Amazon thriller, and a legal drama series on Hulu.

Kardashian and Roberts will reunite after previously acting on screen together in Kardashian’s first acting role in American Horror Story: Delicate as characters Siobhan Corbyn and Madison Montgomery. Part 2 is currently airing on FX.

Throughout the week, potential buyers of the series made other offers, but Netflix ended up winning the bidding war and is set to distribute the film. The project is currently in development.

Roberts and Karah Preiss under Belletrist Productions will produce the series alongside Kardashian, Milchan, King, and her partner Lauren Wagner under Long Lake Media. Matt Matruski will also executive produce.
