The trailer for Blink Twice, a film directed by Zöe Kravitz, was released on April 23. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming thriller.

Zöe Kravitz‘s directorial film debut, Blink Twice, will be released on August 23 by Amazon MGM Studios. Co-written by Kravitz and E.T. Feigenbaum, the film centers on a cocktail server, Frida (Naomi Ackie), who becomes infatuated with a billionaire tech mogul, Slater King (Channing Tatum).

Slater invites Frida to join him and his friends on a luxurious, tropical getaway on his private island. Everyone in attendance has a beautiful time, but as strange occurrences happen, Frida questions her reality. To stay alive, Frida must uncover the truth.

Naomi Ackie and Channing Tatum are at the helm of Blink Twice‘s cast. Christian Slater, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Kyle MacLachlan, Haley Joel Osment, Geena Davis, and Alia Shawkat round out the ensemble cast.

Kravitz began writing the film in 2017 under the name P**** Island. In a 2021 interview with Deadline, the co-writer and producer provided insight into the film. “The title means a lot of things…as a woman in general, and a woman in this industry, I’ve experienced some pretty wild behavior from the opposite sex. The title was kind of a joke at first, this place where people would go, bring women, party, and hang out.”

She continued, “The story evolved into something else, but the title wound up having multiple meanings. And it alludes to this time and place we claim to not be in anymore, in terms of sexual politics. People are evolving and changing but there is still a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths from past behavior. It’s a nod to that, but it’s also playful, and a playful film in a lot of ways. I like that the title leads with that and has some heavy meaning beneath it.”

Blink Twice began filming in June 2022 in Mexico and was produced by Bruce Cohen, Jordan Harkins, Garret Levitz, Tiffany Persons, Kravitz, and Tatum. Adam Newport-Berra was the film’s cinematographer, and Chanda Dancy composed the original score.

The thriller will be released exclusively in theaters on August 23. In the meantime, you can view the official trailer below and follow Blink Twice on Instagram and Facebook for updates.
