The new A24 film, Civil War, outdid Uncut Gems and became the second-highest-grossing film for the company, only behind Everything Everywhere All at Once.

The entertainment company A24 was founded in 2012. Their highest-grossing film at the North American and worldwide box office is the Oscar-winning film Everything Everywhere All at Once. They are also known for projects such as Euphoria, Beef, Lady Bird, Midsommar, and Hereditary. Nowadays, the company produces around 19 films per year.

Civil War is A24’s most expensive production film to date, with a budget of $50 million. Additionally, the North American box office for the film has reached over $50 million, and the global box office has reached over $65 million. Alex Garland is the mastermind behind the film as both the director and the writer. Garland is known for projects such as 28 Days Later and Ex Machina, also under A24, allowing him to have two films in the company’s top 10.

The cast includes Oscar nominee Kirsten Dunst. She portrays the main character, Lee Smith, a journalist. Dunst told Variety, “This movie, after you see it, you want to talk about it for a while with people. And I think any movie that does that is incredible.” The official crowning of the second-highest-grossing film for the company comes one day before Dunst’s birthday; the star turns 42 on March 30.

Additionally, the Brazilian actor Wagner Moura is mostly known for his role as Pablo Escobar in the Netflix series Narcos. Because of this project, Moura and Pedro Pascal became close friends, and people on the internet love their friendship and even think they have similar looks and personalities. Recently, Moura voiced the villain in the newest Puss in Boots animated film, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. On top of that, Moura told Variety, “Kirsten is just very cool, and I don’t say that about many people.”

Moreover, Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla star Cailee Spaeny is also a part of the cast, making Spaeny and A24’s relationship very successful. Her upcoming project, Alien: Romulus, is releasing in theaters in the summer of this year. The cast also includes Emmy winner Nick Offerman, twice Tony nominee Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonoya Mizuno, Jefferson White, and Nelson Lee.

With the trajectory the film is taking at the box office, Civil War might have a chance of debunking Everything Everywhere All at Once at the national box office. You can watch the trailer below, and the film is still in theaters.
