Women in ICE Detention Centers Allegedly Given Hysterectomies Without Consent
Whistleblower exposes an abusive doctor, who allegedly exploited his power to perform malpractice surgeries.
On September 14th, nurse Dawn Wooten filed a complaint to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Georgia about the inappropriate practices of gynecologist Dr. Mahendra Amin. According to an article by Yahoo, the Wooten’s complaint “reports of a lack of clear informed consent before procedures are performed and numerous women undergoing traumatic, lasting changes to their reproductive health.”
The article continues to describe how at least 5 women were given unnecessary hysterectomies, under the guise of the women having cervical cancer (which was later proven to be false by oncologists). Amin was known as the “uterus collector” among the ICE women, with Wood even comparing the situation to being like those of an “experimental concentration camp.”
According to Heavy, some horrifying instances of Amin’s abuse are as follows: “Everybody [the gynecologist] sees has a hysterectomy — just about everybody. He’s even taken out the wrong ovary on a young lady [detained immigrant woman]. She was supposed to get her left ovary removed because it had a cyst on the left ovary; he took out the right one. She was upset. She had to go back to take out the left and she wound up with a total hysterectomy…he still wanted children—so she has to go back home now and tell her husband that she can’t bear kids… she said she was not all the way out under anesthesia and heard him [doctor] tell the nurse that he took the wrong ovary.”
However, this isn’t the first time Amin has been accused of malpractice. According to an article by Heavy, in a case in 2015, Amin and several other doctors “were ordered by the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia to pay more than $520,000 in fines after ‘allegations that they caused false claims to be submitted to Medicare and Medicaid.'”

There has been much speculation about Amin’s credentials, in which the Heavy article further states that he “was educated at the Medical School Government Medical College of South Gujarat University in Surat, India. Amin completed his internship at the New Civil Hospital in Surat, India. His residency was the University Hospital at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, New Jersey.”
Remember that coerced hysterectomies were a central part of US policy long before ICE was created.

Furthermore, there has been a mass public outcry against Amin’s actions, with people comparing him to ‘Hitler.’ More investigation is currently being done on this case. For the full story, read more at Heavy.
