The SeeHer award recognizes authentic portrayals of women across the entertainment pool and is given to women in film who aim to push past boundaries and defy stereotypes. Nadine Karp McHugh, President of SeeHer, is thrilled to welcome Zendaya as the latest recipient. McHugh states that Zendaya “represents everything SeeHer is about.” She truly embodies the definition of what it means to be a young woman in Hollywood. She is an actress and activist, constantly using her platform to advocate for the lives of Black women and equality in society as a whole. Zendaya encourages the new generation to use their voice because it matters.

Zendaya is one of the biggest stars in entertainment today, spreading across a wide range of genres. Having garnered fans from Disney Channel and Marvel, the actress continues to rise in the industry as she takes on new and diverse projects. The 24-year-old started on Disney Channel as Rocky in the dance show, Shake it Up from 2010-2013. She has also been in K.C. Undercover, The Greatest Showman (2017), and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). She also competed on season 16 of Dancing with the Stars, where she and her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, were runner-ups.
Perhaps her greatest success so far is seen in the 2019 drama series, Euphoria, where she portrays Rue, a struggling addict. Zendaya became the youngest star to win an Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Rue. She has also found success in 2021’s Netflix hit, Malcolm and Marie, opposite John David Washington. She is up for Best Actress for her role as Marie at this year’s Critics Choice Awards. Zendaya is also in the highly anticipated film Dune, starring opposite Timothée Chalamet, which is set for an October 2021 release.

Aside from her acting accomplishments, Zendaya is also a beauty ambassador for Lancôme, as well as an ambassador for Bulgari and for Valentino. Despite her busy schedule and stardom, Zendaya truly loves her fans and is appreciative of all the support that has come her way. As McHugh said before, Zenday is everything the SeeHer award stands for.
The Critics Choice awards will be hosted by Taye Diggs, airing on The CW March 7, from 7-10 pm ET/PT.
