Dwayne Johnson Reveals Release Date For New DC Comics Film ‘Black Adam’
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has landed the lead role in DC Comics Black Adam as a powerful villain who is on a mission to redeem himself. Johnson shared an inauspicious video announcing that fans will have to wait until July 29, 2022, to see the film in theaters. The Hollywood Reporter also revealed that the production of the new superhero film is set to begin in April in Atlanta.
On March 29, Johnson posted a short video to Instagram promoting the upcoming movie. In the video Johnson’s voice booms throughout Times Square as he says, “The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change,” while several jumbo screens presented the visual teaser. In the caption he wrote, A disruptive and unstoppable global force of a message from the man in black himself”. Black Adam is set in Kahndaq where five thousand years ago Johnson’s character was imprisoned. Now, Black Adam is free and isn’t going to let anyone take away his power.
The character first appeared in the DC universe in the 1940s as a villain, but by the 2000s he became more of an anti-hero who lacks traditional heroic qualities. The film is a spinoff of 2019’s Shazam! a sequel, Shazam! The Fury Of The Gods is also in the works.
Actor, Pierce Brosnan will be taking on the role of the superhero, Dr. Fate who is a founding member of the Justice Society of America. He is the final member of the team, joining Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. His source of power comes from the Helmet of Fate.
