Academy Award winner Olivia Colman may be trading in her crown for a role in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series Secret Invasion on Disney Plus. The Hollywood Reporter announced the actress is in talks to play an unknown character in the Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn superhero vehicle.

While President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige has kept the plot of the series a secret, fans can expect Secret Invasion to feature an alien race called Skrulls hiding on Earth. Captain Marvel was the first MCU film to include Skrulls, but they appeared most recently in WandaVision and Spiderman: Far From Home.

Colman’s potential character is still unknown at the time, but she is expected to join Jackson’s Nick Fury, Mendelsohn’s Talos, and Kingsley Ben-Adir if cast. Feige has not yet announced what role Ben-Adir will play, but The Hollywood Reporter says his character is most likely the villain of the series.

Neither Colman nor anyone from Marvel has commented on the casting rumors. However, in 2020, Colman expressed interest in playing a villain in the MCU.

Currently, Colman awaits the results of the 93rd Academy Awards, where her performance in The Father earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She previously won the Best Actress Oscar for The Favorite in 2019. She also just ended her run as Queen Elizabeth II in the Netflix drama series, The Crown, for which she won a Golden Globe in 2020.

Secret Invasion will feature a screenplay from Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot). Moreover, Marvel plans on filming the series during the fall in Europe. While there is no release date for the series yet, fans can catch up with the MCU on Disney Plus.
