On Friday, May 21, BTS made a musical comeback with a new, light-hearted song “Butter.” Although “Butter” premiered at midnight EST, fans were not hesitant to stay up and root for all seven members. After the release, supporters took to social media to share thoughts on the new hit.

“We wanted to create a song that’s really upbeat, that’s a summer song that, as you said, it makes people happy and go out and dance. That’s what we want to do. We wanted to have a summer song that can heal and console people,” BTS explained when talking with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.

Continuing, the music video for “Butter” begins with a simple black-and-white theme, eventually evolving into color as the track incorporates a powerful synth-pop vibe. BTS- consisting of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook- are seen carrying the song with groovy dancing alongside colorful visual effects. Moreover, the band also makes a loving tribute to their fans, ARMY, by spelling out the letters through body language.

During a news conference after the song’s release, BTS’ Jimin shares his perception of “Butter.” “This is a little embarrassing, but it’s something smooth like butter, that really melts into and grabs hold of you. It’s a very cute song, sort of like a confession,” he exclaims.
