Machine Gun Kelly Releases New ’emo girl’ Music Video ft. WILLOW
Pop-punk music is officially in. Machine Gun Kelly enlisted the help of Willow Smith for “emo girl,” the first single off Mainstream Sellout, the singer’s upcoming sixth studio album.
Machine Gun Kelly and WILLOW have released their collaborative music video and pop-punk anthem, “emo girl.” The catchy tune begins with a cameo by Blink-182’s Travis Barker, who portrays a school teacher accompanying kids on a school trip. It is undoubtedly a nostalgic trip down memory lane, especially for pop-punk lovers everywhere.
The rapper pays tribute to his fiancée, Megan Fox, in the song’s intro. The famous words “I am a god” appear in the 2009 cult classic film, Jennifer’s Body. The track also pays homage to Barker’s band, as WILLOW sings, “Holy f*ck, I’m bleeding on your Blink tee.”
MGK and Smith have teased their collaboration for a while now, and the “Transparent Soul” singer spoke to Barker in a special Rolling Stone issue about “emo girl.” She reveals, “To be a Black woman and be able to come on that song and write my verse with my outlook on life — just being able to be authentically me on that song — those are the kinds of things that are going to make more people feel seen. That’s the most beautiful part of music.”
Smith is already cultivating a strong path in the pop-punk genre, having collaborated with the Pop-Punk Princess Avril Lavigne on “GROW” and “Transparent Soul” with Barker this past April.
The “emo girl” music video shows the children watching MGK and WILLOW in awe. By the video’s end, the students too become emo, rocking the black lipstick, fishnets, and fake tattoos.
Congratulations to Machine Gun Kelly and WILLOW on a smash hit single. MGK’s upcoming record, Mainstream Sellout, will be released on March 25. In the meantime, fans can watch the music video above.
