Simu Liu Added to Cast of Greta Gerwig’s New Barbie Film
The cast list keeps growing as Simu Liu becomes the latest talent to join the latest Barbie movie.
Also attached to the project are Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as her love interest Ken. America Ferrera was recently added to the cast, with her role being kept under wraps.

Liu is hot off the success of starring as the lead in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The film grossed $432 million at the global box office, a smashing success for a release during the COVID-19 pandemic. Director Destin Cretton recently inked a deal with Disney for a sequel to Shang-Chi.
In an interview with People, Liu stated of Shang-Chi, “It’s been such an incredible ride with ups and downs, but this idea that there is something in the world now that wasn’t there before that is meaningful to kids and [touches] people’s lives, I think that’s really incredible…It’s been immensely rewarding [to have] this platform now, and I don’t intend to waste it.”

He has been open about the importance of Asian representation on-screen, tweeting, “Seeing all the little Asian kids dressed up as Shang-Chi is so precious. We should probably make more of these movies….”
Noah Baumbach, Gerwig’s partner, is co-writing the film with her. His latest success came in the form of Marriage Story, which earned a Best Picture nomination the same year as Gerwig’s Little Women. The two have quickly become a Hollywood power couple behind the camera.
Barbie‘s plot is still unknown, but there is no doubt that there is anticipation for details.
