Silk Sonic Performs New Cover of ‘Love’s Train’ at the Billboard Music Awards
Silk Sonic was as smooth as, well, silk during their performance at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards. The R&B duo performed a cover of Con Funk Shun’s “Love’s Train” and indeed brought the ‘80s nostalgia.
As the program returned from commercial, the brightly-colored screen rose to reveal the duo comprised of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak accompanied by two background singers and a full band behind them.
While dressed in rust-colored lapel suits, the duo immediately draws the crowd in with their groovy opening. They maintained the momentum throughout the entire performance with effortless, synchronized choreography and overall sleek vibes. Truly, it’s not a Silk Sonic performance if they’re not feeling themselves and having a good time, which makes their performances memorable.
Critics and fans alike were pleased with their performance and felt that the duo paid tribute to the original song but respectfully made it their own.
I know Silk Sonic didn’t just hit that Love Train by Con Funk Shun. Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak are the greatest duo I’ve seen in a long time. They’re too smooth and cool right now.— Melissa Gregg (@MelissaGregg13) May 16, 2022
I normally hate song covers but Silk Sonic ate UP love train— DarkChild 🤎🟤 (@glynderella_) May 16, 2022
Surprisingly, unlike their night at the Grammys, they only brought home one award. The duo was nominated in four categories, including Top Duo/Group, Top Top R&B Album, Top R&B Artist, and Top R&B Song, in which they won for “Leave The Door Open.”
Silk Sonic definitely ate on the remake of Love Train. #BBMAs— butta$cup.🧑🎤 (@__wussaname) May 16, 2022
Although they might not have taken home several awards, Silk Sonic gave an exceptional performance that will have all of us replaying for weeks ahead.
