Viewers have praised Black Mirror for its dramatic storytelling of an alternative world driven by technology that brings out people’s worst instincts. When asked about the show’s message, Brooker stated, “Our stories are not warnings. Technological progress is completely inevitable. We think more about the human characters. They’re not societal warnings. And I think we’re quite optimistic.”

Brooker was unsure of the series’ future at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, stating, “At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those. I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.”

Miley Cyrus, Andrew Scott, Anthony Mackie, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II starred in season 5. Prior seasons included the talents of Jon Hamm, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Daniel Kaluuya. Casting is currently underway for season 6.

Although there is no announcement of a release date, fans could rewatch the past five seasons on Netflix.
