Put on a happy face, because the sequel to Joker has officially been granted a release date. Todd Phillips’ sequel with Joaquin Phoenix embodying the role of Arthur Fleck and his alter ego, Joker, will arrive in theaters on October 4, 2024. The movie premieres exactly five years from the beginning of the Joker madness.

On August 3, Warner Brothers announced the continuation of the Joker universe. Many have continued to show their unwavering support for the filmmaker and Phoenix’s upcoming collaboration. Phillips left fans optimistic after he posted the script along with the film’s title, Joker: Folie à Deux, back in June. On that same day, he also shared a black and white photo of the actor reading over the script.

Joker remains the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, bringing in $1.07 billion at the box office worldwide. Although it is hard to imagine topping that success, the filmmaker may have a few tricks up his sleeve. Shortly after almost breaking the internet with his script, rumors over Lady Gaga joining the cast as Harley Quinn began circulating. Those rumors were confirmed today in an Instagram post Lady Gaga posted, teasing a listing of herself in the film.

Lady Gaga has proven herself to be a multi-faceted talent. She gained critical acclaim for her role as Ally in the 2018 remake of A Star is Born opposite Bradley Cooper. More recently, she wowed audiences with her role as Patrizia Reggiani in the Ridley Scott film, House of Gucci. The singer starred opposite actors Al Pacino, Adam Driver, Salma Hayek, and Jared Leto.

Joker: Folie à Deux’s plot has largely been kept under wraps, but nevertheless, we cannot be more excited for a new Joker sequel. Fans can relive the film by watching it on HBO Max.
