On August 26, Britney Spears took to Twitter to announce new music. She writes, “Okie dokie … my first song in 6 years!!!! It’s pretty damn cool that I’m singing with one of the most classic men of our time … Elton John.”

The Rocketman first teased “Hold Me Closer” on August 8. On August 19, just one week until the release date, he posted side-by-side photos of the duo when they were young. Spears is in a bright pink dance costume, and John is seen at the piano giving a big grin.

John expressed how grateful he is to help the “Toxic” hitmaker make her much-needed return to the music scene. He states, “She’s been away so long – there’s a lot of fear there because she’s been betrayed so many times and she hasn’t really been in the public eye officially for so long. We’ve been holding her hand through the whole process, reassuring her that everything’s gonna be alright.”

He adds, “It’s all about reaching out. I never reached out and asked for help because I thought, I’m too proud – it will make me feel weak. A lot of these artists don’t reach out for help, so I find out and ring up and then we get together.”

“Hold Me Closer” is a mash-up of 1971’s “Tiny Dancer” and 1992’s “The One.” The duet is undoubtedly the perfect summer smash.

Here at Glitter, we could not love “Hold Me Closer” more. We are so proud of Britney and her triumphant return to pop music. “Hold Me Closer” is available to stream on all major music platforms.
