This was PinkPantheress’s first song that hit the Hot 100 and currently holds her highest position, her second highest one ranked at number 20, with the others averaging around 58.
This new iconic duo all started from a DM to Ice Spice, from PinkPantheress, stating, “Whenever you’re in the UK, I’d love to meet.” This random DM snowballed into the song that we all come to love and enjoy.
While the song seems to have a seemingly upbeat song, in reality, the song expresses her views of how she isn’t loved by her partner, as he is only in a relationship due to her looks. Her realization causes her to believe she is in a one-sided relationship.
Although the Jersey Club beat isn’t what Ice Spice would normally rap over due to her Bronx Drill style, she was able to hold her own. By contrasting PinkPatheress’s sensitivity which is reflected by her soft singing, Ice Spice starts by having an aggressive tone as she accuses the man of being unfaithful and asks to “send a pin” to know his location.
While they both understand that the man is not fully committed to the relationship, they both are not willing to leave the relationship as they are in love, “I don’t sleep enough without you/ And I can’t eat enough without you.” This song encapsulates the cycle of unrequited love through their efforts to have reciprocated love.
