This song follows her last single, “Another Nasty Song,” which dropped on December 16, 2022. In addition, Latto has amassed over 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify and has worked with a variety of iconic artists for her album, 777, including 21 Savage, Childish Gambino, Kodak Black, Lil Wayne, and Lil Durk.

Latto teased the single on Twitter on February 9 with a blurry picture of “Lottery 2/17” spelled with dollar bills and a nine-second clip of the song. Many on Twitter had mixed feelings about this announcement, some raving about the news and others tweeting things like, “we will not be streaming.”

Some fans are hoping for a Nicki Minaj diss in Latto’s new album stemming from their beef in October. Minaj made her frustrations known during the 2023 Grammy ballot about her song “Super Freaky Girl” being moved into the pop category from the rap one since she hasn’t won a Grammy. She publicly voiced on Instagram Live that Latto’s “Big Energy” didn’t deserve to be in the rap category.

“If you can’t tell by now that there is a concerted effort to give newer artists things they really don’t deserve over people who have been deserving for many years, then you not paying attention,” Minaj stated.

From there, the two artists publicly went back and forth, even releasing an audio recording of a phone call between the two and other female rappers.

Latto was nominated for Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Hip-Hop Song with “Big Energy” for the AMAs last year and won the new artist category at the BET Awards. Most recently, she was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys and had three Billboard Top 100 entries.

Regardless of whether or not Latto disses Nicki in the single or the album, fans are excited to see more from Latto. Even LU KALA is excited to work with Latto.

“Lottery” will drop this Friday and can be listened to on all major streaming platforms.
