The 31-year-old rapper Quavo has released an official music video for his song “Greatness,” a tribute track for his late nephew Takeoff. On November 1, 2022, Takeoff was shot three times and was killed while at a billiards and bowling venue in Houston, Texas.

The two of them, along with the American rapper Offset, were the members of the hip-hop group Migos, who reached success with songs like “Versace,” “Fight Night,” and “Look at My Dab.” In their career, they have released four studio albums, with three of them making up their Culture trilogy.

In the new track, Quavo raps that Migos is gone in lines like “So don’t ask about the group, he gone, we gone, young n____, it can’t come back.” The video shows him smoking marijuana, playing basketball, and engaging in other activities for the past few months. He also raps about how important it is to look forward and not look backwards at the past. Some of his coping strategies could be seen in lines like “I had to go read the Bible and take a few pages.” He also raps his feelings about Takeoff’s legacy in hip-hop with the line “Came in, swept the game like a storm with the m____________ flow, n____, Take’ did that.”

Quavo also gives a shout-out to his mother, his sister, and even YRN Lingo, who is Takeoff’s blood brother, and makes an appearance in the music video. The video ends with bold yellow letters that state “LONG LIVE TAKE.”

There have been a lot of positive reactions to both the song and video. A Twitter user reacted to the song by stating “This new Quavo is crazy,” while another used a meme of Kanye laughing and suddenly becoming serious with the statement “Me listening to Quavo’s new song realizing that it’s the end of Migos.”

“Greatness” isn’t the first Takeoff tribute that Quavo has released: it follows his January 2023 single “WITHOUT YOU.” Quavo also held up Takeoff’s chain a few weeks ago at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards when he performed the song “WITHOUT YOU” which was done with Maverick City Music, a contemporary worship music collective.
