In November 2022, Wednesday debuted on Netflix and took the world by storm. In just a week it started breaking Netflix’s records. Lead actress Jenna Ortega, who takes on the role of Wednesday Addams, continues amazing audiences with how incredibly she embodies her character.

From her self-choreographed dance scene, which went viral across social media, to her intimidating lack of blinking, Ortega’s deadpan acting is loved by many.

But the actress notes tweaking parts of the original script to get the classic Wednesday Addams moments we see. On Spotify’s Armchair Expert podcast, Ortega speaks to host Dax Shepard about some of her changes.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down on a set in a way that I had to on Wednesday,” states Ortega. “Everything that she does, everything that I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all.” She admits to becoming “almost unprofessional” as she “just started changing lines.”

With such positive reactions to Wednesday, it’s safe to say that Ortega’s changes were good decisions. In seeing her talent, Ortega will now be an executive producer for season two of Wednesday. Hopefully, after the new episodes air, we’ll get an inside scoop on her work.

It’s interesting to pick Ortega’s brain about her character because she has a strong sense of who Wednesday should be. In the podcast episode, Ortega mentions feeling protective over her character. It’s clear that the actress is in tune with who she is portraying.

Casting such a fitting actress was no mistake. Wednesday and Ortega are almost one and the same. “You have to kind of ‘be’ Wednesday, and that’s what Jenna is,” Tim Burton tells Elle. “Whether she likes it or not, she’s got that in her soul, and as a person.”

After season one of Wednesday, and hearing how Ortega helped perfect her character, we are excited to see what’s in store for the upcoming season. It’s a bit too early to know the exact details yet, but Wednesday is telling us to prepare.
