Victoria Monét: A Year of Hits and Grammy Buzz
Victoria Monét marked a successful 2023 with her breakout single “On My Mama.” The singer scored seven Grammy nominations for her acclaimed debut album, Jaguar II.
Monét made the shift from a songwriter to a performing artist seem easy. She has previously worked with artists like Ariana Grande, Blackpink, Fifth Harmony, and Chloe X Halle. Monét is very close to Ariana Grande, as she holds one of the famous “7 Rings.”
Despite having worked for famous artists, Monét has forged her distinct path. Her work showcases a deep connection and appreciation for her culture. The video of her song “On My Mama” has multiple references to Black culture. Growing up, Monét sang in her church’s youth choir and was a part of the Sacramento city dance team.
Monét’s toddler, Hazel, is the youngest Grammy nominee for her feature on the artist’s song “Hollywood” from her album Jaguar II. “I’m so happy and excited about that. Of course, it was a thought when submitting for the nomination, but I thought it was a long shot. I’m so thankful for the Recording Academy’s voting members,” the singer told GQ. “I can’t wait to explain it to her when she’s older, so she knows how big of a deal she is.”

In her interview with GQ, the “On My Mama” singer revealed that she doesn’t feel bound to one genre. “I feel like as a songwriter I’m able to freely switch and kind of be fluid genre-wise,” she explained.
The singer also expressed she wants to collaborate with Tyla. “I love artists who dance, and I think there are a few in this generation who I feel like we could just kill something together and make a crazy visual with crazy dance scenes.”
