Normani announced the release date for her lead single from her solo debut album, Dopamine, titled “1:59” featuring Gunna, which will be released on April 26.

On March 23, Normani took to TikTok to tease the lead single from her upcoming debut solo album, Dopamine. The video caption states, “soo basically my first single ‘1:59’ will be coming out 4/26.” In the video, the singer and dancer lip-synced to what is believed to be the chorus of the unreleased track. Following a call-and-response structure, Normani sings the first line solo in a burgundy dress. The next line features her vocals with rich harmonies, and she is wearing a black bodysuit while recording herself in the mirror.

The lyrics in the 14-second preview are as follows: “When I get you alone, / Boy what you ‘gon do with it? / Don’t talk too much, just do this s*** / Boy what you ‘gon do with it?” The singer continued to tease the song, which has been confirmed to feature Gunna, with a set of new Instagram pictures captioned, “What you gon do with ittt.”

Fans have been awaiting more news regarding the album since the singer revealed the cover art on February 21. “cryingg typing this rn. DOPAMINE THE ALBUM,” she wrote on her socials. The cover art displays Normani in a chained, black two-piece lingerie set atop a matching black rocket. A release date has yet to be announced. Her website teases fans with a countdown only revealing that Dopamine will come later this year.

In an interview with Who What Wear, the “Wild Side” singer opened up about how her parents’ cancer diagnoses impacted the rollout of her solo music. She recalled learning of her mother’s second breast cancer diagnosis and her father’s diagnosis in 2021. “F*** all of this. This is bigger than the music. It’s bigger than what I’m trying to accomplish. This is life or death. All I wanted to do was be there for them,” she stated

She also explained how working on her music helped the family through difficult times. “Honestly, music got them through the cancer treatments. I remember being on FaceTime with my mom while she was undergoing chemo and her asking me, ‘How’s the studio today? How’s the music coming?’” She stated, “As hard as it was for me to not be with them as much as I wanted to, ultimately, pushing through made the circumstances of the last few years feel a bit lighter for my parents.”

Dopamine will be Normani’s first solo album since the girl group Fifth Harmony took an indefinite hiatus in March 2018. Entering The X Factor as individual contestants, Ally Brooke, Camila Cabello, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, and Normani were formed as a group. Fifth Harmony released three studio albums, spawning hits such as “Work from Home,” “Worth It,” and “Boss.” Normani has found solo success with singles such as “Motivation,” “Love Lies” featuring Khalid, and “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B.

Dopamine can be pre-saved on Apple Music and Spotify on Normani’s website.
