SZA and Keke Palmer Will Star in Issa Rae’s New Comedy Film
Issa Rae is bringing some heat to her new comedy film. It has just been announced that the picture will star SZA and Keke Palmer.
The movie has yet to be named, but it is reported that Lawrence Lamont will direct it, and Syreeta Singleton is writing the screenplay. In addition it will also be produced by Rae at TriStar Pictures.
This is not Rae’s first time working with Lamont or Singleton—the three Collaborated on Rae’s Max series Rap Sh!t. The comedy starred Aida Osman and KaMilion as two women trying to become rappers in the tough music industry. Lamont directed several series episodes, and Singleton worked as the series runner.
Palmer is not just a part of the project; she’s also its executive producer, a role she’s taking on through her company, Big Boss. Her excitement for the new project is palpable, as she took to her Instagram to share her anticipation, expressing, “I CANT WAIT!!!”
This is just one of Palmer’s projects; the actress is set to star in two more films this year. In January, Aziz Ansar announced that Palmer would join an already amazing cast for the comedy Good Fortune and a heist film alongside Eddie Murphy called The Pickup. However, filming for the series has stalled following an accident on set.
This is SZA’s first full-length film premiere. The R&B singer previously portrayed a short role in Rae’s HBO series Insecure.
The picture will also be a first for Lawrence Lamont and will be his feature directorial debut. It will come from Sony Pictures CoCre Lab. The new project was created by ColorCreative and Colombia Pictures to help up-and-coming diverse screenwriters develop and write their first studio feature films based on original ideas.
There have been no other comments or announcements about who else will appear in the film.
