Actress and singer Kate Hudson is to star in a new Netflix comedy series, Running Point, written by Mindy Kaling. Here is a first look.

On May 15, the new series was presented by Hudson and Kaling at the Netflix Upfront in New York City. They talked about the story, giving some new details and first-look photos.

Netflix took to X, tweeting some of the exciting first-look photos shared of the actress on screen with her costars in the upcoming series. Moreover, they describe it as set in the “Unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.”

In addition to Hudson, the cast includes Brenda Song (Dollface), Drew Tarver (Unfrosted), Scott MacArthur (No Hard Feelings), Fabrizio Guido (Family), Toby Sandeman (The Game), Chet Hanks (Greyhound), Max Greenfield (New Girl), Keyla Monterroso Mejia (Freeridge), Uche Agada (Rise), and Dane DiLiegro (Prey).

The story will follow a woman named Isla Gordon (Hudson), President of a legendary professional basketball franchise. When a family scandal happens, her brother is forced to resign from his job. As she is next in line in the family business, she is appointed President of the Los Angeles Waves. In the male-dominated world of sports, Gorden does everything she can to prove to those around her, including her skeptical brothers, the board, and the sports community, that she is the right fit for the job.

Tarver will take on the role of Sandy, one of Gordon’s brothers and the chief financial officer of the Waves. MacArthur will embody Ness, her other brother, and the team’s general manager. Song will portray Ali Lee, the Waves’ chief of staff.

Furthermore, fans are excited about the mix of their favorite actors, with a crossover of characters throughout television and films, including London Tipton from The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Schmidt from New Girl, and everyone’s favorite rom-com lead, Hudson. The talents will work well together on screen and should be a fun watch for lovers of sports and television itself.

Kaling will produce under Kaling International in association with Warner Bros. Television. She will also co-write with her former Mindy Project coworkers, Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen. Stassen will serve as the showrunner.

Known for her creative comedy work on and off-screen, Kaling’s long list of achievements includes writing the series The Sex Lives of College Girls, Never Have I Ever, and The Mindy Project. In addition, she is also known for acting in films and series, such as The Office, Inside Out, Ocean’s Eight, A Wrinkle in Time, and more.

The series will contain ten episodes and will premiere on Netflix in 2025.

You can watch Hudson’s most recent films, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, on Netflix and Kaling’s most recent project, Velma, on Max.
