Foster The People is an indie pop band comprised of Mark Foster and Isom Innis. Founded in 2009, it has achieved worldwide success and multiple Grammy nominations.

After a seven-year-long hiatus, Foster The People is returning to the music industry with a brand new single and album on the way. The band announced the next chapter of their career with the single “Lost In Space.”

The single has infectious beats reminiscent of the 1970s, which is the principal inspiration and vibe for their upcoming album Paradise State of Mind.

Widely known for their hit song “Pumped Up Kicks,” released in 2010, the band thrived off its success by releasing several albums. Their last album, Sacred Hearts Club, was released in 2017 before announcing their latest project.

Many wondered why Foster The People took so long to release a new album. In a recent interview with Variety, the band revealed why there was such a gap between past projects and gave exclusive details regarding what to expect while waiting for their new album.

“The record started as a case study of the late Seventies crossover between disco, funk, gospel, jazz, and all those sounds,” stated Mark Foster, the band’s lead singer. “Lost In Space” perfectly encapsulates those nostalgic tunes, entrancing fans to dance the night away on the disco floor.

Before announcing their new album, Foster The People released their four previous projects under Columbia Records. The band has officially signed with Atlantic Records to promote and produce their latest album.

The band’s leading man, Mark Foster, also sat down in an exclusive question-and-answer session with Forbes to discuss his songwriting techniques and how life has drastically changed since the band’s last record release.

“I would say that was the first official song for Paradise State of Mind and it really opened a lot of things up. Just reconnecting with artists. Because I’d been so isolated just at home, not touring, I’d gone dark online. We hadn’t played live, I hadn’t talked to fans,” Foster stated while creating the beginning of the album in London.

Following the band’s announcement on social media regarding new music, fans everywhere praised Foster The People’s return. “When the world needed them the most, they came back,” one user stated.
