The Debut: Dream Academy was a program created by Geffen Records and the label behind BTS, Le Sserafim, and Tomorrow x Together, HYBE.

The program was intended to create the next biggest girl group using the same methodology and training systems used in the K-pop industry. It also relied on votes from fans and scores from the judges to determine who made the cut.

The show’s concept was similar to I-LAND and R U NEXT, the reality programs that formed ENHYPEN and ILLIT. The documentary is directed by award-winning filmmaker Nadia Hallgren, who also directed Becoming, a documentary about former First Lady Michelle Obama.

The live finale of the competition aired in November 2023, and group members Sophia, Manon, Daniela, Lara, Yoonchae, and Megan were selected to be now known as KATSEYE.

Furthermore, the members have gained popularity as a group and as individuals, with each member gaining followers on their personal social media accounts and fan pages being created to support them.

In November 2021, over 120,000 online auditions were submitted to the competition worldwide. The top 20 contestants were selected to be featured on the program, where they competed in vocal, dance, and visual missions. By the day of the finale, there were ten finalists. Sophia won first place with a total of 88.33 points.

Tune in to the documentary on August 21 to get an inside look at how the members claimed their spots.
