Skylar Simone will release her new EP “SHIVER” on August 16 with Def Jam Recordings.

The singer has come a long way since her Glitter Magazine cover story.

So far, the singer has released two singles from the EP: “SHIVER” and “Shut Up.” Simone told BET, “‘Shiver’ represents a blend of my love for ’90s R&B with modern influences. It’s a reflection of my growth and where I am today as an artist.”

The track “Permission” plays on the “You” singer’s signature flirty personality with lyrics like “Whatcha doin’ to me, tangled up in the sheets, are you going in deep if I gave you permission.”

Simone explains, “I want people to feel sexy and flirty and also just free. Having a sense of freedom brings confidence. However you feel, own it.” The R&B singer gave KTLA 5 News a premiere performance of “Permission.”

On the EP, the song “I Wish I Lied” explores regret regarding infidelity. The “Shiver” singer expresses, “I thought it was a cool concept, even though I didn’t agree with it. I wrote the song from the perspective of a woman cheating and regretting telling the truth.”

The last track, “Someone Who Cares,” invokes feelings of independence when she sings, “Try that […] with somebody else, save your love for somebody else, someone who cares, not me.”

For “SHIVER” week, the R&B star answered some questions regarding her new EP on social media. The title “SHIVER” was inspired by the EP’s five tracks, which, according to Simone, invoke a “flirty/playful” essence. Simone revealed that her favorite song to write was “I Wish I Lied.” The singer also told fans that another EP is coming since the project was initially supposed to be an album.

To celebrate “SHIVER” week, Simone is giving out Shiver necklaces. Fans can pre-save the EP to have a chance to win the necklace here. While fans anxiously wait for the EP, Simone also gave fans the “Shiver Ice Pack,” which includes five new versions of the lead single “Shiver.”

The “What’s Good” singer also released a behind-the-scenes video of the acoustic version of “Shiver.” To promote the “SHIVER” EP, Simone recently appeared on the podcast Bringin’ It Backwards. According to the video’s description, “SHIVER” was produced in the U.S. and Loden with Scribz and Talay Riley.

While Simone might be new to the R&B space, the singer shows no signs of slowing down. Her goals include “World domination in the music industry. Grammys, tours, albums, traveling—I want to do it all. I also dream of expanding my brand into beauty and fashion. I’m a huge sneakerhead too. I would love to design a pair of Jordans! That would be so cool.”

The singer wants “people to love my music and be moved by it, and to hopefully have songs that stick around for decades and decades to come.”
