Billie Eilish’s New Hit ‘Birds of a Feather’ Soars to Number One on Apple Music
On October 9, pop artist Billie Eilish’s single “Birds Of A Feather” reached number 1 on US Apple Music for the first time. A song that was once on the sidelines is now topping charts left and right.
The 22-year-old singer debuted the song after the release of her third album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, as part of the album playlist. Initially, the single was supposed to be something other than the lead single for the album’s release. The song placed at number 5 on the Hot 100 Chart but slowly dropped down a few spots. However, the single “Birds of a Feather” rose in the charts, reaching number 11.
The single’s rise was due to fans streaming the song on TikTok after the album came out. TikTok users would use the “Birds of a Feather” audio and make videos of their friends or significant others. The low-key song with the romantic lyrics was a fan favorite among the singer’s fans, forcing the artist’s label to make it the lead single for the album.
The artist’s brother, producer, and songwriter Finneas, stated in a 16-minute video posted on YouTube, “There’s a lot of songs about dying for somebody and loving them until they die, and I thought it was enjoyable to lean in.” The inspiration for the song came from the thought of writing a traditional love song with a twist. While the music sounds happy and poppy, it doesn’t use words like “grave” and lyrics such as “‘Til I’m in the grave / ‘Til I rot away, dead and buried.”
“Birds of Feather” reached number 1 on iTunes over the summer following the singer’s performance at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics and has been climbing the charts of Billboard, according to Forbes. “Birds of a Feather” continues to be an iconic song among Billie Eilish fans, emphasizing the love for your best friend or significant other.
