Anne Hathaway and ‘Verity’: Bestseller to the Big Screen
Anne Hathaway is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling thriller, Verity.
Directed by Michael Showalter, who previously worked with Hathaway on The Idea of You, the project promises a gripping cinematic take on one of Hoover’s most talked-about novels. The announcement has already generated significant buzz, with the actress’s involvement sparking mixed reactions from fans and critics alike.
The Princess Diaries actress will star as Verity Crawford, one of the main characters in the novel. Verity follows the story of Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to complete the unfinished works of the infamous author Verity Crawford. As Ashleigh deeply examines Crawford’s manuscripts, she must determine whether Crawford’s writings are chilling works of fiction or sinister warnings from a disturbed mind.
The announcement of Verity marks the second of Hoover’s novels to be adapted for the big screen. Her first adaptation, It Ends With Us, premiered this past summer.
Starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, the movie was a box-office hit, grossing $349 million globally against its $25 million budget. However, behind-the-scenes controversies involving Baldoni and other cast members suggest that a sequel to It Ends With Us may not be happening anytime soon.
While the casting for other key roles in Verity has yet to be announced, fans have already begun theorizing their dream picks for the characters.
