Robert Pattinson New Film Mickey 17 Hits Theaters March 7
Bong Joon Ho, the visionary filmmaker behind Parasite, returns with his highly anticipated sci-fi thriller, Mickey 17. Starring Robert Pattinson, the film is based on Edward Ashton’s novel of the same name and is set to hit theaters stateside on March 7.
In Mickey 17, Pattinson portrays Mickey Barnes, an “expendable” crew member on a deep-space mission. Tasked with the riskiest assignments, Barnes’ job is to sacrifice himself whenever necessary, knowing that his consciousness will be transferred into a new cloned body. This cycle of death and renewal seems routine—until one regeneration takes an unexpected turn, leading to unforeseen complications that put the mission, and Barnes himself, in jeopardy.
With a stellar ensemble cast, Mickey 17 features Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), Steven Yeun (Nope), Toni Collette (Hereditary), and Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things). The film is produced by industry heavyweights Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner (Moonlight, 12 Years a Slave), along with Bong Joon Ho and Dooho Choi (Okja, Snowpiercer).
Behind the scenes, an acclaimed creative team brings the story to life. Cinematographer Darius Khondji (Bardo, Okja) captures the film’s striking visuals, while production designer Fiona Crombie (The Favourite, Cruella) builds the futuristic world Mickey inhabits. Yang Jinmo, known for his Oscar-nominated work on Parasite, handles editing, and Jung Jaeil (Squid Game) composes the score. The film’s visual effects are overseen by Dan Glass (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore), ensuring an immersive sci-fi spectacle.
Bong Joon Ho, known for blending genres and exploring profound themes, brings his signature style to Mickey 17. The film delves into existential dilemmas, identity, and the ethical implications of cloning, all wrapped in a high-stakes sci-fi narrative. Pattinson’s portrayal of Mickey Barnes promises a gripping performance, as he navigates a world where his very existence is both expendable and essential.
Mickey 17 is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and will be released worldwide March 7, premiering internationally on March 5. It will be available in major U.S theater chains, including AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. As anticipation builds, this film is poised to be a thought-provoking and visually stunning addition to Bong Joon Ho’s acclaimed body of work.
