Lady Gaga Celebrates New Album Mayhem on Saturday Night Live

To celebrate the release of her newest album Mayhem, Lady Gaga took on the daunting task of being both host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Performing new songs “Abracadabra” and “Killah,” it is safe to say she brought mayhem to Studio 8H.

The 38-year-old pop icon and actress returned to Saturday Night Live for her second time hosting and her fifth time as a musical guest. She is the third person on season 50 to take on both roles leaving her with big shoes to fill following Charli XCX and Timothée Chalamet.
In typical SNL fashion, Gaga opened the night with a hilarious monologue filled with self-deprecating jokes. She referenced the last time she hosted in 2013, when she sang a duet with the now-imprisoned R. Kelly.
Gaga joked, “The last time I hosted was in 2013 and every aspect of my performance aged amazingly. There’s no need to Google SNL 2013 Lady Gaga featuring R. Kelly.”
The singer-songwriter also poked fun at her most recent film Joker 2, noting, “Joaquin and I even got nominated for a Razzie, which is an award for the worst films of the year. So, we won, for worst on-screen duo. But jokes on them, I love winning things!”
While Gaga’s monologue was lighthearted and humorous, she did not hold back during her performances. The 14-time Grammy winner followed her monologue with her performance of “Abracadabra.” Dressed in a full-body sparkly red jumpsuit with a matching headpiece, Gaga sang her most recent single while incorporating impressive choreography.
For her next performance, Gaga sang “Killah” while dancing her way from her dressing room to the Studio 8H stage. She made use of the space, incorporating movement throughout the entire rendition. Gaga ended the song with an outfit change, ripping off her purple suit to reveal a sparkly red bodysuit and tights.
Having released Mayhem on March 7, a day prior to her SNL performance, Gaga celebrated with a bang. If you missed her memorable performance, click here to stream the episode on Peacock.
