iHeartRadio Music Awards: What Happened and Who Won?
The iHeartRadio Music Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday, March 17.
The iHeartRadio Music Awards are officially over, with Taylor Swift, Benson Boone, Billie Eilish, and others earning major honors. The event also paid tribute to Los Angeles after the devastating wildfires from earlier this year by driving donations to FireaidLA.
The awards recognize the most frequently-spun artists and songs on iHeartRadio platforms in the past year. Hosted by LL Cool J for the second year in a row, this year’s ceremony honored some of the biggest names in music.
Swift was the biggest winner of the night earning nine awards, including Artist of the Year. Her ground-breaking “Eras Tour” won Tour of the Century. Post Malone followed with four wins, two of which were for “Fortnight,” which he collaborated with Swift.
Boone won his first iHeart Award for Song of the Year, “Beautiful Things,” making him the first male artist since The Weeknd won for “Blinding Lights” in 2021.
Eilish earned Album of the Year for HIT ME HARD AND SOFT. She accepted the award with her brother, Finneas.
Gracie Abrams won Breakthrough Artist of the Year. In her acceptance speech, the “That’s So True” singer thanked four artists she’s performed on stage with: Swift, Noah Kahan, The National, and Olivia Rodrigo.
SZA won R&B Artist of the Year for the third straight year, making her the artist with the most wins in the category. Jelly Roll earned Country Artist of the Year, just one year after winning New Country Artist of the Year. GloRilla scored Hip-hop Artist of the Year, Sabrina Carpenter won Pop Artist of the Year, and Green Day won Alternative Artist of the Year.
In addition to Tour of the Century, other honorary awards were handed out throughout the night. Lady Gaga scored the iHeartRadio Innovator Award, while Mariah Carey won the iHeartRadio Icon Award. Nelly took home the iHeartRadio Landmark Award in honor of the 25-year anniversary of his first studio album: Country Grammar.
Fans also had the opportunity to vote on five new awards: Favorite Soundtrack, Favorite Broadway Debut, Favorite Tour Tradition, Favorite Surprise Guest, and Favorite K-pop Dance Challenge. They also voted on five pre-existing fan awards: Best Lyrics, Best Music Video, Favorite Tour Style, Favorite Tour Photographer, and Favorite On Screen.
Performers included GloRilla, Eilish, Bad Bunny, Abrams, Nelly, Kenny Chesney, and more.
