Will Smith May Return for New Men in Black Film
Will Smith is teasing a potential return to the beloved Men in Black franchise after a twelve year hitaus from his iconic suit.
During a recent appearance on Million Dollaz Worth of Game, the Philadelphia rapper and actor shared with the hosts that he is in talks to replay his role as “Agent J” in the upcoming installment of the popular science-fiction comedy series.
“I told myself I was done with sequels. I was like, ‘I’ve made enough sequels. I got some new things I want to make,’” Smith admitted. “Literally this morning, an hour before I came down here, they just threw the bag for another Men in Black. I was like, Ah, I’m supposed to be going on tour this summer!”
Smith last appeared in Men in Black 3 over a decade ago alongside his co-star Tommy Lee Jones, who portrayed “Agent K.” The franchise continued in 2019 with Men in Black: International, starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, but without Smith or Jones. That installment received mixed reviews and did not perform as expected at the box office.
Following the low response to the reboot, Sony Pictures reportedly reconsidered their approach. According to the studio, they initiated production on a fifth Men in Black film last year, with strong speculation about Smith’s involvement.
“Sony is determined to fix the flaws of Men in Black: International,” the report claimed. “After the disappointing reception of the 2019 movie, Sony has learned its lesson and is eager to bring Will Smith back for the next film. Executives believe his absence significantly contributed to the last movie’s lackluster response.”
Although Smith has not officially confirmed his participation, his comments strongly suggest that a return is likely. During the interview, Smith hinted that his schedule might allow him to step back into the black suit and sunglasses once he completes his tour for his upcoming album, “Based On A True Story”.
Will Smith fans will have to wait for an official announcement, but excitement is already building around the possibility of seeing him in his the iconic suit once again.
