Dev Patel Cast In New Film, The Peasant
Dev Patel is the newest addition to the upcoming film project, The Peasant.
Patel will serve as a director, writer, and actor. The project is an action thriller and period piece created by Fifth Season and Thunder Road Pictures.
The film takes place in 1300s India, where a shepherd sets out on a mission in rebellion against mercenary knights who raided his community. Along the way, the shepherd learns more about himself than he thought possible.

Fifth Season, which is producing and financing the film, originally worked on the project with the scriptwriter Will Dunn, earned a spot on the Black List in 2023, featuring highly popular screenplays yet to be produced. Patel adjusted certain aspects of the film, including the setting and the back story.
Thunder Road has produced other popular action franchises, including the John Wick films. Fifth Season is the company behind films such as Book Club, Blue Miracle, Just Mercy, and others. Producers are hopeful that this film will lead to the creation of a franchise.
Fifth Season’s next film launch will be released on May 9. Friendship, featuring Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson, is being released by A24. Thunder Road’s next film Fight or Flight starring Josh Hartnett, is also slated to debut in May.

Patel previously worked with Thunder Road on his debut film as a director, Monkey Man, which he co-wrote and starred in. The film, released by Universal Studios in 2024, was an action thriller about a man raiding a nightclub in India to get revenge on his mother’s killer.
The Slumdog Millionaire star has featured in many other films, including Lion, Hotel Mumbai, The Green Knight, The Wedding Guest, The Last Airbender, and more.
