Wicked Special Event Will Premiere Live This Fall on NBC
Head back to Oz this fall. NBC is set to air a live musical special featuring film stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo singing songs from the original Broadway musical Wicked.
NBCUniversal presentations are being held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The network displays to potential advertisers what it has planned for the next TV season. Among those promises is one that guarantees more Wicked content for fans.
Director Jon M. Chu took to the stage at the upfront to announce The Wicked Event Special, starring the two leading witches, Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba Thropp), and Ariana Grande (Glinda Upland).
“This fall, our stars, the wonderful Cynthia Erivo and incandescent Ariana Grande, will be joined by their castmates and some wonderful surprise guests in a one time only event from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles,” Chu told the crowd. “they will perform live many of the songs from the first movie — and maybe a little bit from the second one as well, for a night of entertainment that we think will be, as they say in Oz, thrillifying.”
The Wicked Event Special will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California, and is scheduled to debut sometime before the sequel’s premiere on November 21.
There’s no word on who else will be joining Erivo and Grande at the Peacock Theater this fall, including co stars Jonathan Bailey (Fieyro), Marissa Bode (Nessa Thropp), Ethan Slater (Boq Woodsman), Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible), and Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard of Oz).
This is undoubtedly a promotion for Wicked: For Good, the sequel and conclusion to Elphaba and Glinda’s tale. It will undoubtedly be a grand event with stars you won’t want to miss.
Even stars from the original Broadway production may make an appearance. Original Elphaba and Glinda, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, played significant parts in the first film’s promotion; it only stands to reason they’ll be present for the epic conclusion.
As if that wasn’t special enough, Chu gave the audience an exclusive sneak peek at the still unreleased trailer for Wicked: For Good. However, the director gave an apparent warning to potential leakers.

“If you even reach for them, just know we’ve got fly monkeys staged all around the theater, and they take security very seriously. Believe me, you do not want to tangle with them.” He warned.
This is not the first time the trailer has been screened for exclusive audiences, but Universal Pictures has fans chomping for it. With only six months until the premiere of Wicked: For Good, it can be expected at a moment’s notice.
