High doses of nostalgia are on the horizon as Warner Bros. recently revealed that there will be a remake of the romantic drama The Bodyguard. The 1992 hit film starred the late legend Whitney Houston and was the catalyst to the blow-up of the popular classic “I Will Always Love You”.

The Bodyguard originally grossed over $400 million at the worldwide box office and still holds the title for the bestselling movie soundtrack of all time.

The original film followed a story about Rachel Marron (Houston), a pop diva who has an obsessive stalker that consecutively sends her disturbing threats. Rachel eventually hires secret service agent Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) who later becomes a much more prominent figure in her life than she expects.

Tony-nominated playwright Matthew Lopez will be writing the reimagination of the iconic Houston film. Although a cast has not been confirmed just yet, there are speculations around Lizzo and Chris Evans, Cardi B and Channing Tatum, and Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth.

Overall, this generation will be getting an updated taste of Houston’s reign in film. Perhaps there will also be an updated twist to the songs from the original soundtrack since a brand new soundtrack will have huge shoes to fill with classic fan favorites “I Will Always Love You,” “Run To You,” and “I Have Nothing.”

A release for The Bodyguard has not been announced. However, fans can stream the original romantic drama on Hulu.
