Alessia Cara has released her highly anticipated third studio album, In The Meantime. To celebrate such an occasion, the “Shapeshifter” singer also announced a surprise music video for “Best Days.”

In The Meantime consists of eighteen tracks. Cara initially shared the first two singles off the album: “Sweet Dream” and “Shapeshifter,” back in July. The singer writes in a post that there is a thread that runs throughout her songs: the thread of duality. In sharing these two singles, Cara found “Sweet Dream” and “Shapeshifter” to run at each end of her dualistic thread.

“Sweet Dream” represents the hardship and helplessness surrounding my last couple of years. She elaborates that the song explores her battle with insomnia. Fans see Cara’s battle in her own head and insomnia in other songs such as “Box In The Ocean,” “Fishbowl,” and “Voice In My Head.”

“Shapeshifter” represents sophistication in the latter half of the album. Cara writes that she “had to experience different forms of pain to regain my footing.” She then follows up with the joke, “(got my feelings hurt whatever).” Fans can see this in tracks like “Bluebird,” “Slow Lie,” and “Apartment Song.”

After delivering such a cohesive album, Cara would go on to tell fans that her music video for “Best Days” is out in conjunction with the album. “Best Days” is arguably the most emotional song off the record, as Cara uses one lyric from the song to describe the record: “You live, and then you die, / But the hardest pill to swallow is the meantime.”

Fans have taken to social media to thank Cara for her beautiful songs.

In The Meantime is Cara’s most ambitious music to date. The singer aims to answer all of life’s biggest questions, all while delivering epic pop bops. The “Best Days” video is available to stream above. Be sure to stream Cara’s incredible third studio album, In The Meantime, on Spotify.
