Law Roach Announces Unexpected Retirement in New Instagram Post
Law Roach, celebrity stylist to Zendaya, Bella Hadid, Anya Taylor-Joy, and others, just announced his retirement from styling in a new Instagram post.
In an Instagram post made just days after the Oscars red carpet, Law Roach announced his retirement from styling, to the shock of many fans. Roach was best known for styling countless celebrities as well as his role as a fashion judge on the series Legendary. He also collaborated with designer Hervé Leger to release a line of women’s luxury clothing in 2022.
Many iconic celebrity looks can be attributed to Roach. From Ariana Grande’s renaissance-themed 2018 Met Gala carpet look to the costumes of Halsey’s short film, Roach is responsible for some of the most recognizable fashion moments of the past decade. Just a few weeks ago, he styled Zendaya’s blooming pink Screen Actors Guild red carpet gown. He has worked alongside the star for years and is primarily known for their collaborations. Ultimately, his presence in the world of celebrity fashion is unforgettable, to say the least.
His long-lasting presence is what made fans shocked to read his retirement announcement on Instagram. He announced his retirement via an Instagram post with a short description. Audiences including Naomi Campbell and Christian Siriano expressed distress in his comments.
Roach thanked his supporters and confidants in the post. He emphasized that “if this business was just about the clothes [he] would do it for the rest of [his] life.” Although on a negative note, he cited politics, lies, and ‘false narratives’ as his reason for leaving his craft.
News of retirement comes mere months after winning the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards’ (CFDA) Stylist Award. Roach made history as the first ever recipient of the award. At the CFDA Awards, Kerry Washington stated that “Law doesn’t create looks, he creates moments, memories and tableau.” Clearly, his impact on the industry has not gone unnoticed.
Fans were left confused. The popular digital fashion magazine Diet Prada simply commented a series of question marks underneath the post.
Meanwhile, fans on Twitter have shown their distress. One fan tweeted a series of pictures celebrating his work, captioned that his retirement will be “a huge loss for red carpets.” Other fans have joked that they hope his announcement is merely an ‘early April Fool’s prank.’

Additionally, speculation has festered on Twitter as to why Roach has made this decision. According to W Magazine, though Roach has major respect in the industry, some speculate mistreatment towards the stylist. Page Six pointed out Zendaya’s new contract with Louis Vuitton and a suspicious video of Roach losing a first-row seat at Vuitton’s runway as possible reasons. E News also mentions that Legendary was cancelled last December. Whatever the case may be, fans are searching everywhere for answers.
Roach has not yet released any further statements regarding his decision. He also declined comment from other news stations.
Still, celebrities have rushed to support him. Nene Leakes commented “mental health is first,” and editor of British Vogue Edward Enninful commented that he will “always have a home at British Vogue.” Whatever his reasons for retirement, it is clear that his self-respect should, and will, always come first.
Although the news is disheartening and the future of styling is uncertain, Roach will always be remembered as an icon. To see more of his astounding work, fans can head to his Instagram where many of his looks are preserved.
