Dua Lipa surprised fans with a limited edition vinyl of her upcoming third album, Radical Optimism. The vinyl became available on Blood Records’ website on March 27. Fans quickly snagged the 5,000 copies which sold out in under two hours. The record features zoetrope pressing, creating moving images as it spins on the turntable. One side displays Lipa swimming in the ocean, while the other depicts the singer in a backward bend.

The three-time Grammy Award winner revealed the album cover and tracklist for Radical Optimism on March 13. The cover shows the “Houdini” singer in the ocean with a shark close by, its fin above water. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Lipa explained, “It is that feeling of chaos and danger and unexpected things coming into your periphery and remaining calm in the face of it. It felt powerful to me.” The album features 13 tracks, including singles “Houdini” and “Training Season.”

Radical Optimism is the follow-up to Lipa’s sophomore album, Future Nostalgia. The album was scheduled for release on April 3, 2020, but was pushed to March 27 after the project was leaked online. During an Instagram Live on March 23, the “Levitating” singer updated her fans about the album’s rollout. “My album is coming out this Friday, March 27…I hope it brings you some happiness, and I hope it makes you smile.”

Future Nostalgia won Best Pop Vocal Album at the 63 Grammy Awards in March 2021. Its singles “Don’t Start Now,” “Levitating,” “Physical,” and “Break My Heart” cemented Lipa as a mainstay in pop music.

Lipa has also taken her talents to the silver screen, writing and performing “Dance the Night” for Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. The song was released for the film’s soundtrack Barbie the Album and received numerous nominations including Song of the Year and Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 66 Grammy Awards and Best Original Song at the 81 Golden Globe Awards. Lipa made her acting debut in the film as Mermaid Barbie. She also appeared in the spy action comedy Argylle.

Radical Optimism will be released on May 3. Fans can pre-save the album on streaming services and shop the album’s collection on the singer’s website.
